Hiking in Grand Canyon National Park

Grand Canyon Trails

Enjoy views from the top of Bright Angel Trail and overlook the Grand Canyon, Great Basin and Arizona State Capitol in Flagstaff. The North Kaibab Trail is accessible. However, it is rather difficult to reach and is easily one of the most difficult trails in the park. This trail is the best place to get a feel for the Grand Canyon. Note: it’s more than twice as long as the South Kaibab Trail. The trail follows the road until it connects to Grand Canyon Lodge on the North Kaibab Trailhead. The trail leads to the North Rim Campground, where you will also find a bicycle rental and general store.

Traveling the State

Peach Springs, is known as the gateway to the Grand Canyon. It is also the last town on historic Route 66 to be bypassed by Highway 40. You can feel the old west in this pine-forested town of about 1,000 people. Enjoy lunch while you hike the scenic Route 66 Sedona Trail, one of Arizona’s most popular hiking trails. After lunch you can continue on HWY 66 to Lees Ferry, where the canyon is only 400 feet wide, and go across it.

Staying in Sedona and Flagstaff

If you’re a luxury traveler, hotels in Sedona may be the best way to visit the Grand Canyon in Arizona. This charming college town is home to Northern Arizona University, but is also a popular place for outdoor lovers. Flagstaff is the largest city in northern Arizona! It makes a great stay if you want to go to  visit the Grand Canyon. This is because both cities are close to the Grand Canyon at only a few hours each. Flagstaff is a great place to find the best hiking trails for those who want to learn more about the Southwest.

Other Grand Canyon Adventures

If you want to view the trails in the Grand Canyon, take a helicopter ride, or take a break that you didn’t have time to do yesterday, head to Sedona and spend the day there. You have the opportunity to go out again with a Burro ride or anything else you can do in and around the Grand Canyon.
